Festival Events
This year we have expanded our Events Programme, which is designed to be complementary to the Walks Programme. The evenings feature a range of entertainments from talks through fi lms to music, culminating, as usual, in our popular Twmpath on the last Saturday. We also have Doug Scott on Friday 5th March to talk about his life in mountaineering. Book early for both!

This workshop introduces the art of “map interpretation”, which enables you to get an incredibly detailed picture of the ground using simple techniques. Once you have been introduced to this simple yet effective skill, you will never look at a map in the same way again!

Big Band Concert & Dance

Join us this evening as we kick of the festival with Revival – a 7 piece jazz band with two superb soloists on tenor sax and trombone. Come and dance the night away or just sit back and relax as Revival play numbers from their wide repertoire – from Duke Ellington to Van Morrison, something to please everyone! Cash bar all evening.

The film Eiger Solo was made by well known mountain cameraman Leo Dickinson and has won best film awards at Mountain Film festivals in the UK, USA, Italy, Canada and Spain. It traces the history of climbing on the Eiger and stars Welsh mountaineer Eric Jones in the first solo unassisted ascent of the North face.

After an orientation session, a morning of canoeing down the Wye followed by an afternoon cycle ride back to the start point. Paddle down the Wye to the booktown of Hay on Wye. Doug Scott: Life and Hard Times

In this stunningly illustrated lecture, Doug returns to his roots and tells how he fi rst discovered climbing when out with the Boy Scouts in the UK. He started his expedition career early going to Chad, Kurdistan and Afghanistan. Then came a move into Big Wall Climbing in ever harsher environments in the Himalaya and the Karakorum, where he put up a new route on the highly technical Ogre. He spent over 18 months of his life, on three expeditions committed to climbing Everest’s South West Face with Dougal Haston.

Nordic Pole Walking Instruction

Experts from Leki will introduce you to the technique of using Nordic Walking Poles which provide you with all round exercise whilst walking. Poles provided and plenty of time to practice.
Renga Poetry Walk

Details:
A very gentle walk with a creative fl avour led by local writer and poet, Graham Hartill. Walkers will use ‘Renga’ a Japanese form of shared writing inspired by the landscape, to create a ‘map’ of their walk. For adults (and well-behaved children), fi nishing with an informal workshop to complete the poem. Bring a notepad and pencil!
