Details:
One of the toughest classic walks in the Black Mountains. Ascend to the eastern ridge of the Grwyne Fechan via Henbant. Then north to Pen y Gadair Fawr and Waun Fach (could be very wet). Turning west then south on the return along the western ridge as far as Table Mt and steeply down to Llanbedr for a pint in the Red Lion! Ascent 3400ft.

There is limited car parking at the start of the walk, so car-share from the White Hart, Talybont, leaving some cars in the village.
Details:
Walk via the Bryn to Carn Pica. Then SE to Allt Lwyd before descending to Talybont Reservoir and a steady climb back to the parking place. 2500ft ascent.

The car park is at the head of the Grwyne Fawr valley.
Up through woodland at first then open hill to the Blacksmith’s Anvil. Descend to Capel-y-Ffin, with its tiny churches and monastery before another climb up onto Darren Lwyd. Returning via Rhos Dirion and the Grwyne Fawr reservoir. Ascent 2500 ft.

Along the canal to Talybont and then gradual ascent up the Brinore Tram Road. Returning to Llangynidr via Beacons Way or over Tor y Foel depending on conditions on the day. Refreshments available (tea, coffee or a dram!) at The Coach and Horses on return. 1500 ft ascent. Note there are some stiles on this walk. It will be taken at a gentle pace – time to look at the views and chat!!

Details:
A stiff climb up Hay Bluff, but there’s ample reward in the form of a stride along the ridge following the Offa’s Dyke Path. Descend to the lovely hamlet of Capel-y-Ffin before leaving the valley to climb the ridge of Darren Lwyd to reach Twmpa. Returning via Gospel Pass to the car park. Ascent 2200ft.

A chance to hear at first hand about farming in the area from local farmer Mike Fair who farms on the slopes facing the Sugar Loaf.
From Llanbedr climb quite steeply on to Crug Mawr (taken at a gentle pace) and then descending Cwm Beusych to meet Mike. Back along lovely traffic free lanes and the river. Ascent 500 ft.

A circular walk in a south-easterly direction from Crickhowell. After walking approximately 1 1/2 miles along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, there is a short ascent to Llanelly Church. The return is along hillside paths with stunning views across the Usk Valley. Ascent 1000 ft.
