Details:
A long walk across rough moorland back to Crickhowell taking in Mynydd Llangynidr, The Chartist Cave & Mynydd Llangattock. Excellent views into the Usk Valley & towards the Black Mountains. 500ft ascent.

From the Priory there is a steep climb up the eastern side to Offa’s Dyke, then north to descend through the Vision Farm to Capel-y-Ffin. There is then another steep ascent to the western ridge and a walk south to Bal mawr, before descending to Llanthony. Ascent 3000ft.

To car park go past Talybont Reservoir from Talybont. Up steep hill and turn right after Granary Cottages. Car park on left after 1 ml.

Classic Brecon Beacons, with a steep ascent to start! Corn Ddu, Pen y Fan, Cribyn and Fan y Big – a wonderful sweeping circuit of the Taf Fechan valley taking in the ‘Big Four’. Ascent 3000ft.

An interesting walk through the Graig Wood to look at the ruins of a village that was lost for more than 150 years, then up onto the summit of Sugar Loaf for views of the Black Mts and Central Beacons. 2000ft ascent

From the Queen’s Head, up to Cwmyoy, then a climb up and over the Hatterrall to cross over Offa’s Dyke Path and down to Longtown (look at Castle etc), along part of the Monnow Valley Walk, to Clodock (Church and Cornwalle Arms) then up on to the Hatterrall by Upper Clydd Farm, over the top and return. Ascent 2800ft.

The car park is on B4560 south of Llangynidr.
A walk on the undulating path across the limestone moor of Llangynidr Mt to the well-hidden Chartists’ Cave, reputed to have been the meeting-place of the local Chartists in the 1830s. Great views across to the Black Mountains.

Take Llanbedr Rd from Crickhowell for 4 miles. Right at no through road sign.(Brook Cottage on pre-2009 maps).

A fairly steep climb onto the Pen-y-Gadair ridge and then onto Waun Fach (can be boggy), before rounding the top of the Grwynefechan valley and returning via Macnamara’s road. Ascent 2300ft

A leisurely walk exploring the two hills that define the Bwlch pass. Initially south to Buckland Hill with views along the Usk, then north to Cefn Moel, with views into Llangorse. Returning to the New Inn for free light bites.
