This varied walk from Clydach village follows the route of one of Llangattock Green Valleys' hydro schemes and we will see how it has embedded into the natural scenery since it was built in 2018. We walk up to the impressive Victorian railway viaduct to the hydro intake weir and visit the quarries and former limeworks before descending through a beautiful wood to the turbine shed. The walk will end at the historic Clydach Ironworks, where we will see more about past uses of water in this intriguing valley where nature and industry meet.
DIRECTIONS TO START
From CRiC, take the A40 towards Brecon and at the Shell petrol station turn left. Turn left again over the river bridge and follow this road into Gilwern and at the T junction turn right and keep straight on through the village. At the roundabout take the A465 signposted Merthyr Tydfil. Essentially, keep straight on for about 2 miles and as you go down a dip turn left for Clydach. Keep on into the village and as you start to rise turn right to the hall.
