Leaving Brecon we walk past the river Usk boating area and continue along a bridle way to Gaer Farm. Diverting through the farmyard we visit the footprint and remaining stonework of a former Roman cavalry fort. We continue along a quiet road and across fields to Aberbran with a pretty packhorse bridge across the river Bran. Across the busy A40 we gradually ascend the iron age hillfort of Twyn y Gaer. We descend along a quiet road and fields, cross the A 470 and follow the Taff Trail along a road into Brecon. If it's open we stop at Llanfaes Dairy ice cream shop.
