From Crickhowell we cross the river, walk through the beech wood, over the canal and ascend a stony track to Wern Watkin bunkhouse. Then up another track to see the Lonely Shepherd and hear his story. We walk below the old quarry workings and grassy spoil heaps before descending to the Beaufort Road and across fields to the canal which we follow round a couple of bends. Then we return past Llangattock church and across the river to Crickhowell.

DIRECTIONS TO START

CRiC - the Crickhowell Resource and Information Centre - is situated on the A40 in the centre of Crickhowell. The post code is NP8 1BN.There is a public Pay and Display car park immediately behind the CRiC building which is accessed from Greenhill Way by the Fire Station. At the weekends a voluntary donation allows you to use the School Car Park. Continue along the A40 to the Asda Petrol Station. Turn left and the school is on your right.

Gwyn Dix - 1000 miles for Velindre

7:00pm (for 7:30)

Following the untimely death from cancer of his wife Angie, local leader and action man Gwyn Dix mounted his homebuilt hybrid bike and cycled from Crickhowell in Wales to Italy, to raise money for Velindre, the organisation which provided care for his wife in her final months. A lively speaker, Gwyn will take us through the challenges and demands of his eventful journey.
