The fascinating history of the Grwyne Fawr reservoir. Explore the remains of the village built nearly 100 years ago to house the builders of the dam, then to the dam itself and lunch in a MBA Bothy. The return will be via a high summit with great views. One rough uphill section but only of about 500m length.




DIRECTIONS TO START

Allow at least 50 minutes from CRiC.  From the front of CRiC Allow 40 minutes from CRiC.  Take the A40 to Abergavenny. Straight on at the first roundabout and then turn left opposite Tesco into Pen y Pound. Bear right at next traffic lights on the Old Hereford Road and follow this road for 2 miles until you see the Crown public house well set back on your left. Immediately after the Crown fork left (signposted Bettws).  Follow this lane for about 2½ miles, keeping on ‘main’ highway, to a five-way junction. Take the first exit  (signposted Grwyne Fawr Reservoir 7 miles). Continue along this narrow road for the 6 miles to the Mynydd Du car park on your right.
