WALK DETAILS

Meeting Point: Tafarn y Garreg SA9 1GS (for bus to start)

Grid Ref: SN 849171

What3Words: skies.epic.newlyweds

Time: 09:00 to 17:00

Distance: 12.6 miles ( 20.2 km )

Ascent: 2200 ft ( 730 m )

Leader: Jason Winney

The walk starts near the confluence of the Nant Gwys and Afon Twrch, just beyond Ystadgynlais. We follow Afon Twrch upstream for 3 miles then head east over rough terrain past limestone crags to cross the Gwys Fawr stream. We stop to visit the site of a WWII aircraft crash then descend gradually south east to the northern end of Cribarth. We cross the main road and walk through Craig-y-nos country park, following the Afon Tawe to Tafarn-y-Garreg. This is a great challenging walk over remote and rough terrain which requires stamina and walking fitness.
