The Clydach Gorge is full of archaeological treasures, delightful woods and hidden gems. It is also the scene of recent major road works, which have transformed the gorge, probably for the better. This scenic walk explores the valley, giving wonderful views of the gorge and of the Black Mountains and continues past the Lonely Shepherd and Llangattock escarpment. Climbing is done at a steady pace on good paths and tracks. We will visit the ghost-like remains of Clydach Ironworks, once part of the great iron making industry in South Wales.

DIRECTIONS TO START

From CRiC, take the A40 towards Brecon and at the Asda petrol station turn left. Turn left again over the river bridge and follow this road into Gilwern and keep straight on through the village. At the roundabout take the A465 signposted Merthyr Tydfil. Essentially, keep straight on for about 2 miles and as you go down a dip turn left for Clydach. The car park is on your right after 1/4 mile.
